Kartpunkt or Google's Geocoding API

Google's Geocoding API covers the world. Kartpunkt covers only Sweden, from Lantmäteriet's official address register, with roads from Trafikverket's NVDB. This page compares price and the terms for storing and showing results, as we read them. It is not legal advice.

When Google fits better

  • You need addresses outside Sweden, or the names of places and businesses.
  • You already build on Google Maps Platform and show results on a Google map.

When Kartpunkt fits

  • You need the official Swedish address from Lantmäteriet's register, with a stable id and a way to check whether it changed.
  • You need roads, road distances or routes from NVDB.
  • You want the API that receives drivers' positions or your customers' addresses to run only in the EU.
